I have a lot to say. Most of it nonsense. None of it relevant to anything. But I write because I love to write. And until that changes, I'll post my nonsense here for all to read.

Lacking Focus, Part I

It's been brought to my attention that I never actually got to telling the story that was the primary focus of the beginning of this, my "new" blog (i.e.: how my life has changed in the past year). Well thank you for noticing, my dear one reader.

I could say I planned it that way, and I did say that, but the truth is I just lost my focus. I tend to do that as I'm writing especially if I'm on a roll. I jump from topic to topic never quite making it back to the central one which is a bad trait for a writer so my plan is to work on that these next few weeks or so.

So as promised, I'll begin to outline the missing time in between that blog and this one.

All right, so it was about September of 2005 when I left my "Temporary Hiatus" message. A year can be "temporary." In fact it was. As my now being back is proof of that. Also I lied in that last post and the blog did in fact become stale.

I left off as I began my new job at the post office. A job I'd been anticipating for quite a few months as my blog posts recount going back four months. Two months in I was done. Not keen on being likened to a complainer however, the simple fact was that the hours really did suck and I was starting to find my way around in the world of television. I told my supervisor whose name I can no longer recall that I would be leaving to take a job in my field as I inched ever closer to graduation. That was November and this is August and I have yet to graduate.

My blog ended before it could chronicle the real events that lead up to my leaving the USPS. Here's how it really went. Less than a month after I stopped writing, we began a new project in my Electronic Field Production class. The project involved shooting a 30-minute documentary on the history of our university. I was in charge of overseeing editing on the entire piece. A nice introduction to the world I'd been planning to make my living in.

While working on that project I made some new friends and let things lapse with my old ones. The people I had been calling my closest friends really weren't. We were biding our time and kidding no one. However as my old blog will attest, it made for some interesting storytelling if nothing else. We haven't really talked much since.

At all, really.

But my new friends I found on this production crew. These were people who actually liked me. And I liked them too. Nadia was our executive producer. Meghan was our associate director. They were actually interested enough to invite me to do something outside of school. For several weeks Nadia and me went over to Meg's apartment to watch TV mostly, no big shock as we were after all television production majors.

But it didn't take long before Nadia started trying to play matchmaker. And it didn't take long before it worked. Meg and I consider our "anniversary" to be November. Now tell me, is that particular timing lost on anyone? I stopped working a job that ate up all my free time right around the time I met a girl I was just crazy about.

Didn't think so.

So that was the beginning of how I began to change myself, inside and out. And try not to mock me too much. I'm just offering up a little background. Don't want it? Don't read it.

But I can take a bit of mockery. Always have.

Anyway, I titled this post Part I for a reason. There's a lot to tell and I don't want this post to be too long. I have to get back into the swing of writing again.

I've missed it.

Stick around for Part II wherein I discuss the changing of the calendar over to 2006 and some plans to traverse the Atlantic for the second time in my life.

Well, thank you for emailing me after about 2390482903842 years. I've enjoyed our correspondence for the past 2 days.

Nice blog you have here, chief. As for your "old" friends, I continued talking to Liz fairly frequently about life and things until last semester (I got pretty busy and I think she did, too). I talked to her a month or so ago. She apparently has a 32(!!!) year old beau. Weird.

I wish you would answer your phone once in awhile or use it to call me. It would be a nice surprise (hint hint) especially since my birthday is in 7 days. Thanks.

You've never been one for focus. Might've been why you did so well with that commentary of the State of the Union a couple years back (you would never know I am Republican, however I'm not afraid to tell a good joke).

Word.

To your mother.
